The Merry-Go-Round Museum’s annual Wood Carver Show will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum’s downtown location in Sandusky, Ohio. Admission is free all day, with carousel rides for $1.
More than 20 carvers are expected to show their work in displays throughout the museum. Many of them will demonstrate their carving skills, as well as discuss carving, while they are at the museum. Items created by these artists will be for sale during the show.
“It really doesn’t matter if you are a carver yourself, just seeing the incredible art created by very talented people is amazing,” said Merry-Go-Round Museum Director Veronica Vanden Bout. “Several of the carvers also volunteer on the restoration crew, and create the raffle horse during the year.”
Visitors to the museum will also have an opportunity to win a hand-carved wooden carousel animal, created by the museum’s volunteer carvers. For 2012, Kate Adam, the museum’s artist in residence, has created a handsome carousel horse, with patriotic colors, and detailed straps and saddle. With an estimated value of more than $8,000 when finished, this horse will be on display during the show. Tickets for the carousel horse are $1.00 each, or six for $5.00 and may be purchased in the museum’s gift shop. The raffle drawing will be held December 31st at the museum’s own “Toast to the Town” New Years Eve gala from 6-9 pm.
“Although we won’t be offering guided tours during the carver show, our volunteers will be available to answer questions on the museum’s newest exhibition “Grab The Brass Ring” and give rides on the merry-go-round,” said Kurri Lewis, the museum’s curator.
